Long answer:
WebBot, the web interface to GradeBot, uses SSL (secure sockets layer) to communicate with your browser. Under the rules of SSL, WebBot must present a Security Certificate to prove it is really who it claims to be.
For budgetary reasons, we have chosen to generate our own certificate, and sign it ourselves. In the general case, when you interact with a web site using SSL, the web site must have a certificate signed by a CA (Certificate Authority). Your browser comes pre-configured with a list of CAs that you "trust." CAs charge a fee to sign your certificate. The benefit is that you can use SSL (https) easily without being asked about the certificate.
Since we are using our own certificate, signed on our own authority, the first time you access the secure content of our web site you will be told that we have an untrusted certificate. You will be given the choice to accept our certificate or reject it. To use WebBot, accept the certificate. To avoid being asked about our certificate every time you log in, accept it "forever."
